My daughter brought a heavily tattooed biker to our family dinner and introduced him as her fiancé — my husband went pale the moment the man took off his jacket.
My daughter had spent the summer in London, and we hadn’t seen her in almost three months.
So when she texted that she was finally coming home for dinner — and bringing “”someone important”” — I assumed she meant a boyfriend.
I wasn’t prepared for the man standing beside her when I opened the door.
He was tall, broad-shouldered, heavily tattooed, with a beard, boots, and a black biker jacket.
For a second, nobody said anything.
Then my daughter grinned and held up her left hand.
“”Mom, Dad… this is my fiancé.””
My husband nearly dropped the glass he was holding.
“”You’re engaged?””
She laughed nervously. “”Surprise?””
The shock lasted maybe thirty seconds.
Then I hugged her. My husband shook the man’s hand, and soon everyone was talking at once.
Despite his intimidating appearance, he was quiet, polite, and almost shy.
By the time we sat down to dinner, I was starting to understand why my daughter liked him.
The house was warm, and halfway through the meal he smiled.
“”Mind if I take this off?””
He slipped out of his biker jacket.
That’s when my husband froze.
On the man’s upper arm was a large tattoo of a beautiful woman’s face, so realistic it looked almost like a photograph.
My husband stared at it so long that I touched his hand.
“”Are you okay?””
He didn’t answer.
His face had gone completely pale.
Then he looked straight at our daughter’s fiancé.
