A grieving Mexican father has accused his ex-wife and her plastic surgeon boyfriend of causing the tragic death of his 14-year-old daughter, Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo, following multiple cosmetic procedures, including breast augmentation.
Paloma tragically passed away in a hospital in Durango, Mexico, officially reported as the result of cerebral edema caused by a respiratory illness. But her father, Carlos Arellano, insists the true cause was something far more disturbing. He claims the procedures performed by his daughter’s mother and her partner played a direct role in her untimely death—and that the official report hides the truth.
According to media reports, Paloma allegedly underwent several cosmetic surgeries, including breast augmentation, a Brazilian butt lift, and liposuction. The case has sparked outrage across Mexico, prompting authorities to launch an investigation.
“The death certificate falsely listed a respiratory illness as the cause, seemingly to cover up the truth,” Carlos told reporters. “They handed it to us immediately. I don’t know how it appeared so quickly. I demand that all those responsible face justice.”
The heartbroken father filed a formal complaint after Paloma’s funeral, insisting there was “more to her death” than what was reported. He recounted that just a week before her passing, her mother told him they were going to the mountains because Paloma had tested positive for COVID-19. A few days later, he received a call that she had been hospitalized in serious condition. It wasn’t until the funeral that he realized something was horribly wrong.
“At the funeral, some relatives mentioned that Paloma’s breasts looked different—larger than before,” he said. “When I asked her mother, she denied knowing anything. That evening, I wanted to speak to Paloma privately and say goodbye, but her mother wouldn’t leave the room. We examined her, and it was clear—she had breast implants. We even have photos of the implants and scars.”
The next day, Carlos went to the authorities with the evidence, demanding a thorough investigation. He believes the procedures were a so-called “gift” from his daughter’s mother, performed by her boyfriend, a practicing plastic surgeon, in anticipation of Paloma’s 15th birthday. He now wants both his ex-wife and her partner to face trial.
Authorities are currently investigating the case, but no legal conclusions have yet been reached.
This tragic story has touched communities across Mexico, shining a harsh light on the pressures of body image, parental decisions, and the devastating consequences they can have on young lives.
